Ingredients:
⅓ Cup Butter, softened (do not substitute margarine)
½ Cup Peanut Butter
2 Tbsp Milk
1 tsp Vanilla
1 Egg
¾ Cup Oatmeal
1-¼ Cup Packed Brown Sugar
¾ tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Salt
1-¼ Cups Flour
½ Cup Chocolate Chips
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 Farenheit
Mix everything together except the chocolate chips. Once ingredients are combined, add chocolate chips and stir until evenly distributed.
Drop onto a baking sheet in scoops of about 2 Tbsp in size.
Bake for 8-10 min until edges start to turn golden. They will still be fairly soft.
Makes 3 dozen cookies.
Back in my 20’s I was searching for an oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate chip cookie recipe and coming up short. The internet was much younger then and there were fewer recipe blogs.
Eventually, I took it upon myself to figure it out and after much test baking, I landed on this recipe. As for the name, we traveled the route from Kansas City to Pratt, Kansas pretty frequently in those days and always crossed a little bridge with a sign for Smoots Creek. I had been saving the name for a cat, but the cookies arrived first.
